For the 2021-22 season opener, “Victorious Return,” Jung-Ho Pak and the talented musicians of the Cape Symphony will take the stage for the first time in eighteen months, performing works of Beethoven and Brahms as well as tributes to heroes both past and present. The magnificent Second Symphony by Johannes Brahms (Jung-Ho’s favorite composer!) is light, pretty, and lustrous. It’s purely wonderful music, full of surprises. The final movement is exciting and ends on a high! In 2020, the Cape Symphony missed the planned celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday, so the orchestra will perform his rousing “Egmont Overture,” a thrilling tribute to resistance against tyranny. The orchestra will pay tribute to frontline and essential workers – the heroes who stepped forward to help our nation – with legendary composer John Williams’ stirring “Summon the Heroes,” originally written for the Atlanta Olympics. The Cape Symphony will also recognize the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with “Towers of Light,” inspired by the light tributes held at Ground Zero. Please join us for this uplifting community celebration as the Cape Symphony returns to what we love best: sharing great music with all of you.
