Nipmuc-Wampanoag Marcus Hendricks and local historian Bob Kelley will lead a one-mile Native American walk along the Thacher Trail of the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth in Yarmouth Port on Aug. 7 from 9 to 11 a.m. The walk will end at the turtle wetu on the HSOY grounds. The leaders will discuss the Woodland Period through 200 years after the European settlers arrived, such as hunting, fishing and domestic life and local Native American Thomas Greenough, one of the “Praying Indians” and last of the Nobscusset Tribe in Yarmouth. Tickets are available in advance only on the historical society website, www.hsoy.org, at $15. If there are open spaces, ticket sales will be open until within an hour of the event. Rain date is the following day for the walk.
